MPD: Baby Killer Arrested

(Reader Warning: This is truly awful. The more tender-hearted may prefer not to read the details below.

Marietta police arrested a 23 year old man today for the murder of an infant in his care and two other cases of felonious assault against a child.

Adam Joseph Baker of Sacra Via was charged with the June 7 suffocation death of his four-month-old son Andrew Joseph Dean Baker.

Twice in November the Marietta Fire Department answered calls where a two-year-old child in his care was found to be unresponsive and not breathing. The first call on November 20 resulted in the child being transported to Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus for treatment where the child was released on November 22.

Police records indicate that the fire department responded to the same address on November 23 where the same child was again suddenly unresponsive and not breathing. The child was airlifted to Nationwide Children’s Hospital for further treatment. As a result of the incident, the child has significant brain damage, loss of sight and will be confined to a wheelchair. Healthcare providers were unable to find a medical reason for the events.

Under questioning, Baker admitted suffocating the children involved in all three incidents.
